The Boris Johnson Christmas Special (video)

Hilarious parody of the Partygate scandal, in which UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and staff were accused of partying while most of the country was in Tier 3 lockdown due to COVID-19. Statements by Johnson and aide Allegra Stratton are met with quips and comebacks by leading characters from British comedy. “Reconstructions” of alleged party incidents take the form of clips from Beat Girl (1961) and Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster (1972). Note the reference to “Life Cry,” a fictional alcoholic beverage introduced by Fran Katzenjammer in the Black Books episode “Elephants and Hens.” Watch below:

Easter Laugh

A clip from the Vicar of Dibley Easter Bunny episode to make you smile

I hope everyone’s having a wonderful Easter. I wanted to post something more profound for Easter, but am feeling a bit run down. Too much posting about politics, I expect. 😉

Anyway, here’s a fun clip from the Vicar of Dibley Easter special made in 1996:

It was the last episode with Letitia Cropley, played by a wonderful old British character actress named Liz Smith, who I also noticed in Britannia Hospital (alongside Leonard Rossiter a.k.a. Reggie Perrin). Both alas gone now. Liz Smith passed away on Christmas Eve of 2016 at the age of 95.

Still, the sight of Dawn French in a bunny costume has got to be worth a laugh. Happy Easter!

The Great Storm

From Charlie Chaplin to The Vicar of Dibley, the Great Storm meme has endured — sometimes in comic form.

I’ve had snow on the brain lately, due to the Beast from the East and Storm Emma, as well as nor’easters hitting here in the U.S. (the latest just in time for spring!). I’m still excited about completing my short film Salvation featuring people, sculptures, and horses in the snow. (My resources are limited, but with what I have I try to make a statement.)

There are many examples of snowstorms providing the dramatic or comedic focal point for memorable scenes from film and TV. A few that spring to mind are: Continue reading

Can You Remember The Words To “My Favorite Things”?

Test your R&H knowledge, watch a clip from The Vicar of Dibley, and have a giggle at these song parodies. Yes, the hills of WordPress are alive with the sound of music…

It’s the first day of spring, and though the view from my window is snowy, the sun’s coming out and the snow’s melting — as if it all were being choreographed. (Now pivot to Julie Andrews.) Since I recently posted  about “My Favorite Things,” I feel it’s my civic duty to come to the aid of readers who became obsessed with trying to remember all the words and had to be sat on or sedated. (Not that I’m actually going to tell you all the words, but at least you’ll know you’re not alone in mangling them.) Continue reading
